Algis Budrys (tikroji pavardė Algirdas Jonas Budrys, pasirašinėjęs slapyvardžiais Frank Mason, John A. Sentry, Paul Janvier, William Scarff, Robert Marner, David C. Hodgkins, Ivan Janvier, Alger Rome, 1931 m. sausio 9 d. Karaliaučiuje – 2008 m. birželio 9 d. Evanstone) – žymiausias lietuvių kilmės mokslinės fantastikos rašytojas.

Biografija

Tėvas 1923 m. buvo Klaipėdos karinio sukilimo vadas, Lietuvos generalinis konsulas Karaliaučiuje Jonas Budrys. 1936 m. tėvą išsiuntus diplomatiniam darbui į JAV, kartu su juo išvyko ir šeima.

Baigė , vėliau Kolumbijos universitetą Niujorke.

Nuo 1952 m. leidyklų „Gnome Press“ ir „Galaxy Science Fiction“ redaktorius ir vadybininkas. Nuo 1993 m. leido žurnalą „Tomorrow Magazine of Speculative Fiction“.

Kūryba

Nuo 1950 m. John A. Sentry slapyvardžiu pradėjo skelbti noveles ir esė redaguojamuose žurnaluose. Vėliau ėmėsi ir didesnės apimties fantastikos kūrinių. Jau antrasis romanas „Kas?“ (Who?), pasirodęs 1958 m., pelnė rašytojui neregėtą pasisekimą. Šlovę rašytojui atnešė 1960 m. (liet. 2002 m.) pasirodęs romanas „Šelmis Mėnulis“ (Rogue Moon), laikomas mokslinės fantastikos klasika. Lietuvių kalba paskelbta apsakymų.

Jo vardas įtrauktas į 25 žymiausių XX a. antros pusės rašytojų fantastų sąrašą, jo biografija ir kūrybos analizė pateikta Charles Platt knygoje „Kas rašo mokslinę fantastiką“ greta 30-ties geriausių fantastų, tokių, kaip Aizekas Azimovas. Jo kūriniai jau tapo pripažinta mokslinės fantastikos klasika.
